 Our Classes

Ballet Technique is the foundation of all Dance and is necessary for the development of the dancer.  The syllabus of Wexford Dance Academy is truly American in its eclectic nature, taking the best of the Russian, French, Italian, and Royal Academy of Dance systems.

Pointe develops the fullest extension of lines for the female dancer and utilizes the dancers strong foundation to further enhance their ballet technique.

Jazz is America's true folk dance and it helps the dancer to further their flexibility and technique.  Jazz dance, with its many styles, allows the dancer to broaden their abilities.

Tap focuses on the connection between rhythm and the dancer, while encouraging a focus on each Tap technique.

Creative Movement enables small children to develop their love for dance as well as music appreciation.  Each class is created for the child's imagination and education.  Children will be exposed to such classics as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella, as they learn the foundations of dance movement.

Randy Choura, a photographer well-known for his ability to capture the nuance, beauty and excitement that is dance; who has been published countless times in Dance Magazine, Pointe Magazine and in newspapers throughout the USA, Canada, and the U.K., had this to say about Wexford Dance Academy:
"From the tiniest tot to the most promising teen, this school is the "real deal." W.D.A. has found that beautiful balance between top-notch instruction, discipline, dedication, and keeping it all fun!  One only need to witness a class, watch a performance, or talk to the parents to see the amazing work being done here.  Tremendous credit must be given to co-owners, Liz Mackin and Beth Robertshaw. Photographing these students has been a pleasure."

We are often asked "When can a dancer start pointe work?"

Wexford Dance Academy follows the accepted methods of traditional ballet programs and professional dance training schools throughout the world.  We adhere to the medical recommendations outlined by The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and The International Association for Dance Medicine and Science.  These Dance and Medical professionals all agree that the earliest a dancer should begin pointe work is age twelve.  This recommendation assumes that the dancer has received appropriate training in preparation for pointe work, has sufficient strength in her trunk, legs, and feet, and adequate motion and flexibility.  If a dancer begins pointe work too early, the risks include: bone and joint damage, the inability to properly execute the required movements, improper stresses on the developing body, and poor ballet technique.
